Elmira, NY – The Arc of Chemung announces that Michael A. Doherty, Ph.D., Executive Director, was selected as the 2017 recipient of the Starbridge Community Impact Award, which honors an individual or organization creating inclusive opportunities for people who have disabilities.

Nominated by his Leadership Team, in recognition of his outstanding leadership and efforts in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, Dr. Doherty’s nomination form highlighted many accomplishments. In his 40+ years working in the field, Dr. Doherty has provided tireless support to and advocacy for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Chemung County and across the state.

Dr. Doherty, along with all other 2017 Community Awards winners, will be honored at Celebration of Champions, a gala being held Saturday, May 13, 2017, from 6-11pm in the Grand Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Downtown, Rochester.

Starbridge’s Community Awards honor people and organizations creating positive change in the lives of people who have disabilities. These awards are unique in that Starbridge invites the general community to nominate worthy recipients and spotlight the tremendous work done throughout our region to transform our communities and open up opportunities for people who have disabilities and their families.
