“I volunteer because it increases my love for my community and gets me out of my comfort zone.”
“I do it because I truly love to help people!”
– HMS National Junior Honor Society
“I'd missed volunteering and working directly with individuals who have challenges. Volunteering for The Arc of Chemung allows me the unique opportunity to combine these things I've missed. I enjoy spending time cooking dinner, baking treats,
and completing fun projects with the residents.”
– Heather Grinnell, Residential Program Volunteer
Join the ever-growing group of people who "Make A Difference" at The Arc of Chemung! We strive for fun and flexibility, with a variety of opportunities from food service, technology, recreational, and one-on-one relationships, to name just a few.
Volunteer and Community Service Opportunities
Residential - At one of our many residences, you can play games, help write letters, assist with household activities, and so much more.
Recreational - You can attend Monday night dances, go to concerts in the park, attend hockey games, assist with score keeping at bowling, swim with new friends, help with arts and crafts, attend Special Olympics, or play a variety of sports like baseball or bocce ball. Fun is the game plan - always! Our agency pays for all activities and events you attend with our people supported, so you attend free of charge.
Volunteer Drivers - You provide transportation to an elderly or disabled individual who has no other means of transportation, setting your own schedule and have the flexibility of donating as much of your time as you would like. A mileage reimbursement is available for all volunteer drivers.
Do you need to complete an internship or community service commitment? There are several positions at The Arc of Chemung that may correspond with your career and educational goals. You can receive credit as a per diem staff member.
Are you at least 55 years of age with some time on your hands? A Senior Companion may choose to work from 4 to 8 hours each day, five (5) days per week and agree to work at least 15, but no more than 40, hours a week. Plus, there is an hourly stipend if you meet the guidelines. Click here to learn more.
