Elmira, NY – The Arc of Chemung announces that it has received a grant in the amount of $12,500 from NYSARC Trust Services Board. These funds will be used to support the Agency’s Recreation Program.
The Arc of Chemung’s Recreation Program provides recreation, socialization and leisure opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities living in the community are very often socially isolated and lack the social skills to pursue a life with meaningful relationships. Funds raised enable the Agency to provide opportunities for individual successes and meaningful relationships.
“The NYSARC Trust Grant funds are integral in our ability to offer new experiences and opportunities,” said Craig Mennig, Family Support Director. Last year the Chapter received a similar grant from NYSARC Trust Services, in the amount of $8,000. As a result of receiving this grant, the Agency was able to hire a DJ for regularly scheduled dances; cover a variety of costs associated with activities where fees are associated, such as community-based bowling, athletic competitions for bowling and bocce, community golfing, and travel for various road trips to farms, fairs, the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Arts Experience, and shopping trips; and other recreation supplies or replacement equipment.
Remainder fund grants totaling $2,302,500 were awarded to support NYSARC guardianship programs statewide. A total of $2,980,000 in remainder grants was awarded in 2016 to support recreation and guardianship statewide. NYSARC Trust Services administers supplemental needs trusts that enable people with disabilities to remain in their home and community while retaining Medicaid services and other government benefits.
